Hittite historiography is often supposed to be modern, faithfully to fact, even "secular". Like Biblical historiography it is distinguished by the fact that it places special emphasis on human deeds in action and reaction (German: "Handlungsdarstellung"). The article wants to show that Hittite historiography is by no means un-tendentious, and that the emphasis of human action arises in Hatti as in Israel from the fact that historiography is a medium of political reflexion on the background of an analogous political-social surrounding.
