Liberalism is arguably the dominant political idea in modern Western political thought. But what exactly defines liberalism? Is there a core essence that revolves around concepts like freedom and autonomy? Certainly, liberal thought has branched out and developed in many ways, from John Locke and John Stuart Mill to John Rawls and beyond. Moreover, liberalism has been repeatedly criticized and questioned. In this seminar, which will be conducted in English, we will explore the origins, main currents, contemporary debates, and critiques of liberalism. |
