The English language is used globally for different purposes and in various forms. We will look at the development of varieties of English world-wide, discuss structural and functional differences between these varieties, and also consider the cultural, historical, and social contexts in which these languages are used. Students will choose one variety to study in depth over the course of the semester and give a group presentation on the relevant structural, functional, and contextual aspects of this variety. |
