Conversation is a cornerstone of human interaction, shaping societies, relationships, and identities. This course explores the complexities of spoken language through conversation analysis, uncovering the structured social dynamics and prosodic features of spontaneous interactions. Extending into sociophonetics, we shift our attention to how social variables and speech sounds intersect by using real-life data. A discussion will be also raised on the emerging research on human-chatbot interactions, highlighting their potential for understanding conversational dynamics and technology. |
