This module is exclusively offered for students of the MA program British and American Transcultural Studies!
It will introduce you to exemplary theories and methods of transculturality and transculturation from the fields of American Studies, British Literature, Cultural Studies, and Anglophone Linguistics. The seminar will be conducted by colleagues from these respective fields who will take turns leading it. Students will be familiarized with concepts such as colonialism, nationalism and imperialism; cultural identity and cultural encounters; globalization; cultural, literary, and linguistic hybridity; and indigeneity, in addition to further ideas from the fields of postcolonial studies, transcultural American Studies, and contact linguistics. Students are required to purchase or download a Reader (available on Stud.IP). Primary texts to be acquired in addition to the Reader will be announced in the syllabus (downloadable from Stud.IP). |
