Texts come in various written and spoken forms and may be conveyed through different channels. Understanding texts, and even more so producing one's own texts, requires a complex set of skills. In this course, we will explore different types of literary and non-literary texts – such as stories, picture books, songs, poems, (short) films, etc. – and will discuss their potential in the context of language teaching and learning in the EFL classroom. We will start with definitions and conceptualizations of different text types and will explore the need for pre-, during-, and post-reading/viewing activities with the help of many practical examples.
