This thesis providing compelling evidence for an anthropo-pedogenesis of various deep and humus-rich soils in Northern Europe. These soils have been formed between the Nordic Bronze Age and the Viking Age. It could be concluded, that the soil management of the ancient settlers may be considered as sustainable organic farming, which greatly improved the ecological soil functions. This could be a model for a responsible handling of the resource "soil".<eng>
