This dissertation reports on the synthesis of novel pnictogen-based biradicals, diphosphanes and phosphaarsanes as sterically stabilized reactive main group compounds. The reactivity of the synthesized species toward small molecules was studied in detail. New bonding motifs such as phosphane arsanyldithiocarboxylates could be isolated. Furthermore, the reduction of a phosphanyl thioketone resulted in the formation of a rare, stable thioketyl radical. The species described in this work were characterized by experimental and theoretical methods.<eng>
