Thema: Morphologische Quantifizierung von Gliazellen in immunhistochemisch-aufgearbeiteten Gewebeschnitten des Zentralnervensystems
To describe cell morphologies, histological descriptions often use terms like “large,” “small,” “swollen” or “ramified”. These terms are indeed very helpful and many times even sufficient to describe cell characteristics, particularly when the differences between pathological and physiological conditions are pronounced. However, such terms are limited with respect to testing for statistically significant changes.
In this project we will adopt the neuron tracing and reconstruction software “Neurolucida360” to quantify glia morphology, thus implementing “Glialucida360”. Key morphological parameters, among cell volume, process complexity, or glia cell polarity will be quantified in control and experimental inflammatory demyelination models. The course participants will learn how to conduct, establish and adopt immunohistochemistry, how to quantify histological parameters, and how to compare such parameters between different experimental or pathological conditions. This acquired general knowledge can then easily be adopted to other organs and research fields |
