Abstract

Information about underexplored offshore rock habitats and their associated sessile assemblages in the German Baltic Sea were gained by the use of a novel seafloor imaging system. Picturing the organisms without bottom contact turned out to be the most cost-efficient sampling method regarding ship and analysis time, is feasible on complex topography and can deliver a great areal coverage. In the context of this thesis, the imaging system was deployed along 56 km of multiple line transects for the assessment of all major offshore rock habitats in the southwestern Baltic Sea.
