Abstract
The thermophysics of the five nucleobases of DNA and RNA: cytosine, thymine, uracil, adenine, and guanine have been studied in this work using fast scanning calorimetry. These nucleobases have a low thermal stability which lead to their decomposition at relatively high temperatures and therefore makes impossible by conventional techniques to determine the thermodynamics of fusion, sublimation, and evaporation processes. In this work, the fusion and sublimation thermodynamics of the five nucleobases has been successfully measured and recommended as the benchmark properties for these compounds.
