Abstract

This cumulative habilitation thesis summarizes the results from a total of seven scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals at the interface between medicine and exercise science, which on the one hand address methodological issues and on the other hand provide a deeper insight into heart rate regulation during and after physical activity. For all studies, ECG-based short-term measurements (duration: 60 to 300 seconds) of the intervals between successive ventricular contractions in healthy study participants were used as the basis for HRV analysis.
